I was invited back to capture a new arrival of a family I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many times over the last few years. Little ones nursery was absolutely gorgeous so we started the shoot there, some in Mums arms and in the cot. I always make time for outfit changes, cuddles and feeds in between the photos too and I encourage parents to include any soft toys, blankets and personal items.

I’m really enjoying getting back into the newborn lifestyle sessions again. I find little ones are so much more relaxed in their own environments and everything they need is already at hand. Having the shoot at your home also makes the images more personal as I often capture interior shots of the nursery too.

A few months ago I captured a wonderful newborn session for little Ariya and her parents. During a newborn photo session I take a range of shots around the home, usually set in little ones nursery with a few snuggled up shots too. Sessions are very natural and there’s plenty of time for an outfit change, cuddles and feeds. At the start of the year I had the pleasure of capturing newborn Aria and her family at their home. I tend to start the session in little ones nursery – shots in their cot, with parents and some snuggled up ones too, and I encourage families to include their own personal items such as handmade blankets, soft toys or gifts. Newborn sessions can last up to an hour, are very natural without too much posing and there’s time for feeds, nappy changes and cuddles.

I’ve been super busy over the summer, but I had to share a few from a recent rainbow themed cake smash. A session lasts up to an hour and starts with a few portraits before I set up for the smash. I have a range of background options, including a neutral one as seen here, a bright pink and a bright blue. I also bring along various bunting – love the new vintage rainbow one – along with a cake stand and ONE letters but parents are welcome to include their own props too and of course a cake! After the session I personally select and edit the best images in my signature style and present them on a proofing gallery where you’re able to view and order the various packages. Where has this past year gone!? It only seems a few months ago I was taking Sophia & Freya’s newborn photographs, and now it’s their first birthday! The newborn sessions are set in and around your home and are very natural in their approach. I try to include portraits with siblings and parents alongside simple photographs of little ones in their nurseries. There’s plenty of time for feeds and cuddles and I try to keep outfit changes to a minimum. Although the session is simple, I do have a few wraps and blankets plus headbands for the girls and encourage parents to include their own items too.

For the final session of the New Baby Deal package, Polly had a pink and gold themed cake smash, complete with a wonderful homemade cake – I’ve found over the years that a simple cake topped with fruit is often more popular with little ones, than a cake covered in super sugary frosting. As always, I started the session with time for portraits, before setting up for the smash. Polly’s Mum provided the lovely pink and gold bunting and the decorative cake stand, but I always bring my props too, should you wish to use them.
