Cake smash photo shoots are always super popular and a great way to celebrate a first or second birthday. I can work around any theme or colour scheme, all you need to provide is a cake and an outfit. I have a selection of bunting options a number 1 and a cake stand, but you’re welcome to include your own props too – wooden or large spoons look great as do small balloons, pom poms and cake toppers.

I’m really enjoying getting back into the newborn lifestyle sessions again. I find little ones are so much more relaxed in their own environments and everything they need is already at hand. Having the shoot at your home also makes the images more personal as I often capture interior shots of the nursery too.

I’m now taking bookings over the warmer months for family lifestyle sessions at selected locations throughout West Yorkshire. The photo sessions last around half an hour, are very natural and can include well behaved dogs if you wish.

Here are a few of my favourites from a recent shoot at Oakwell Hall near Birstall, of a lovely family I’ve had the pleasure of capturing over the last year or so.

I kept the shoot very low key, just using the light from a window and took various photos in their living room.

A few months ago I captured a wonderful newborn session for little Ariya and her parents. During a newborn photo session I take a range of shots around the home, usually set in little ones nursery with a few snuggled up shots too. Sessions are very natural and there’s plenty of time for an outfit change, cuddles and feeds. At the start of the year I had the pleasure of capturing newborn Aria and her family at their home. I tend to start the session in little ones nursery – shots in their cot, with parents and some snuggled up ones too, and I encourage families to include their own personal items such as handmade blankets, soft toys or gifts. Newborn sessions can last up to an hour, are very natural without too much posing and there’s time for feeds, nappy changes and cuddles.

Chocolate cake has to be one of the best types to use for a smash as it’s super messy and looks great in the photos. For this cake smash photo session, I began taking a few portraits on the bright blue backdrop before setting the scene with bunting, a little suitcase and ONE letters. Parents are welcome to include their own items too and of course a cake. After the session I edit the best images in my signature style before presenting the proofs on an online gallery where orders can be placed. Where has this past year gone!? It only seems a few months ago I was taking Sophia & Freya’s newborn photographs, and now it’s their first birthday! It’s such a privilege to be invited back time after time to capture this family and their milestones. Here are a few of my favourites from the session

Maternity sessions take place either on location or at home and I usually advise Mums-to-be to book a date in once they’re 30+ weeks. Ideally I take a range of shots in little ones nursery and around the home using the available light – Hazel’s home has such wonderful light, checkout those fab windows! Family members and children are also welcome to join in for the photos and this often makes the images appear more natural and less posed. After the session I edit the best ones and present them on a private online gallery, where you’re able to order prints, packages and digital images.
