Just getting around to sharing some of my recent shoots including this super cute, jungle themed first birthday cake smash. I love the rag-bunting with the eucalyptus leaves – it’s super effective! Little ones parents made a vibrant green cake to complement the jungle theme too, along with an animal print romper.

The cake smash photography sessions are as popular as ever and are a great way of celebrating little ones first birthday. I start the shoot with time for a few portraits before setting up for the smash. Siblings are welcome to join in too if they wish. All you need to provide is a cake, an outfit and any props – you’re welcome to use my cake stand and bunting options. After the shoot the backdrop is cut off and popped into the recycling so it’s not as messy as you’d think.

Shoots cost just £20 for the session in the Halifax area, then print deals range from £50 to £150 and are pinned to the top of the page over on Facebook.

I’m now taking bookings over the warmer months for family lifestyle sessions at selected locations throughout West Yorkshire. The photo sessions last around half an hour, are very natural and can include well behaved dogs if you wish.

Here are a few of my favourites from a recent shoot at Oakwell Hall near Birstall, of a lovely family I’ve had the pleasure of capturing over the last year or so.

At the start of the year I had the pleasure of capturing newborn Aria and her family at their home. I tend to start the session in little ones nursery – shots in their cot, with parents and some snuggled up ones too, and I encourage families to include their own personal items such as handmade blankets, soft toys or gifts. Newborn sessions can last up to an hour, are very natural without too much posing and there’s time for feeds, nappy changes and cuddles.

Chocolate cake has to be one of the best types to use for a smash as it’s super messy and looks great in the photos. For this cake smash photo session, I began taking a few portraits on the bright blue backdrop before setting the scene with bunting, a little suitcase and ONE letters. Parents are welcome to include their own items too and of course a cake. After the session I edit the best images in my signature style before presenting the proofs on an online gallery where orders can be placed. Kathryn and Scott were married at The Old Barn in Esholt on a super hot day in June. Coverage included the ceremony at the barn, decorated with sunflowers, fairly lights and tonnes of bunting, family groups in the gardens along with couple shots in the nearby fields, before I returned in the evening for the reception and first dance. We also took full advantage of the beautiful weather and had time for my absolute favourite ‘golden hour’ portraits. Here are their highlights x

Clair & Mark decided on a low-key wedding day with their closest family and friends, filled with super bright rainbow colours. The ceremony took place at the Register Office in Halifax, with a few family photos afterwards at the Clay House just down the road in West Vale. Here are the highlights x

Up on the moors has to be one of my new favourite locations for the family sessions, especially during the evening as the sun goes down. I’ve known Andrea since we were nine years old and I’ve photographed her family many times over the years, mainly in a studio style, so it was fab to capture Andrea and her boys in a different setting, without the restrictions of a backdrop and poses.

Andrea put it best…

“We had the best time on our Mummy and boy photo shoot…we posed for a maximum of zero minutes and had so much fun on Norland Moor and yet we have the most amazing images capturing all our personalities and Mum and boy love.”

As I’m catching up on the wedding blogs, I’ll keep them short and sweet. Here are the highlights from Toni & Paul’s wedding day last September. Bridal prep began at the couples home, before heading down to the Central Methodist Church in Brighouse – it was the first ceremony I’d covered at the Church and the Minister was very accommodating and allowed photography throughout. After the ceremony it began to rain, so we decided to take all of the family group shots up at the Moorlands, so the couple and their guests headed off in a vintage double decker bus. Coverage continued throughout the day and included couple shots on the bus and in the smoking shelter (slighter more glam than it sounds!) the speeches, candid moments of guests up until the first dance.
